🌍 Origins and Botanical History

Hoya retusa is native to tropical and subtropical forests in India, particularly the eastern Himalayan region. It grows as an epiphyte on tree trunks and rocks at moderate elevations. The name "retusa" refers to the leaf shape, which has a slightly emarginate (retuse) tip. The species has gained popularity in cultivation due to its unique appearance, unlike any other Hoya.

The leaves are the most distinctive feature of this species. Long, thin, and flat, 8-15 cm in length but only 5-8 mm wide, they resemble green ribbons or blades of grass. The texture is semi-fleshy, and the coloring is medium green. The leaves hang elegantly from long, thin stems, creating an exceptionally decorative green cascade effect in hanging pots.
