Anthurium warocqueanum (Queen Anthurium) — endemic Colombian species with long pendant velvety leaves (60-100 cm) with distinctive silver-white veins. Demanding plant for collectors. Humidity 80-95%, filtered light, 20-26°C.
Approx height (including pot): 10 cm
Country of origin: Netherlands
Among all plants modestly bearing a royal title, Anthurium warocqueanum truly deserves it. Known as "Queen Anthurium," the species is one of the most impressive collector aroids. Its leaves, reaching 60-150 cm in length, are velvety, deep dark-green with distinctive silver veins.
For collectors, this species represents the peak of aroids — alongside A. clarinervium, A. crystallinum and A. magnificum. Humidity requirements (70-90%) make it a piece for plant cabinets.
Described in 1878 by Joseph Decaisne, the name honors Belgian horticulturist Lucien Linden Warocqué. Endemic to Colombia, growing in humid Andean mountain forests at elevations of 600-1700 m. Hemi-epiphytic species — germinates in soil, then climbs trunks with aerial roots.
Leaves, ovate-lanceolate elongated, hanging elegantly from short petioles, reach 60-150 cm long and 25-40 cm wide. Velvety texture from microscopic trichomes. Deep dark-green color with silver veins is the distinctive mark. Under optimal conditions, each new leaf is larger than the previous.
Green-yellow spadix 5-7 cm surrounded by narrow spathe. Flowering rare in apartments. The decorative value lies exclusively in the foliage.
Slow growth — only 1-3 new leaves per year. At maturity, rosette of 1.5-2 m. Propagation via divisions at repotting.
On Eufloria, part of rare Anthurium. Use epiphyte substrate. Toxic to pets — non-toxic alternatives.
