🌍 Origin and natural habitat

Phalaenopsis orchids originate from the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, the Philippines and northern Australia, where they grow as epiphytes on tree trunks in conditions of filtered light and high humidity. The name “Phalaenopsis” derives from Greek and means “resembling a moth”, referring to the elegant shape of the petals that mimic the wings of a butterfly in flight.

The Little Kolibri series was developed through selective hybridisation to produce plants with a compact habit, abundant flowers and exceptional resilience in indoor conditions. The result is an orchid that retains the exotic charm of the species but in a miniaturised format, perfect for small spaces.

🌱 Care guide

Light: Prefers bright indirect light. A spot near a window but out of direct sunlight is ideal. Avoid direct sun exposure, which can burn the leaves and flowers.

Watering: Water once a week by submerging the pot in room-temperature water for 10-15 minutes. Allow all water to drain completely before placing the plant back. Never leave the roots sitting in stagnant water.

Temperature: Thrives between 18-25°C during the day. A temperature difference of 3-5°C between day and night stimulates the formation of new flower spikes.

Humidity: Appreciates humidity of 50-70%. Mist around the plant (not directly on the flowers) or place on a pebble tray with water.

Substrate: Exclusively pine bark or specialist orchid substrate. Never plant in ordinary soil — the roots need air and excellent drainage.

Fertilising: Apply a diluted specialist orchid fertiliser twice monthly during the growing season. Stop fertilising during active blooming.

🌸 Blooming and decorative use

Phalaenopsis Little Kolibri MIX can bloom continuously for 2-4 months, and with proper care, it can rebloom several times a year. After the flowers drop, cut the flower spike above the second node from the base to stimulate a new floral branch.
