Phalaenopsis Little Kolibri Amabilis is a miniature orchid of pure elegance, with immaculate white flowers that radiate simplicity and refinement. Part of the Kolibri series, a collection of compact orchids developed in the Netherlands, it preserves all the beauty of full-sized phalaenopsis in a format ideal for small spaces, desks, or as a special gift. The Amabilis variety stands out for its clean, classic white that brings light and serenity to any corner.
The genus Phalaenopsis comprises approximately 70 species in the Orchidaceae family, originating from Southeast Asia, the Philippines, and Australia. The name comes from Greek: “phalaina” (moth) and “opsis” (resemblance), as the flowers resemble moths in flight. The species Phalaenopsis amabilis is one of the most important parent species in modern orchid hybridization, prized for its large white flowers and long blooming duration.
The flowers are the jewel of this miniature orchid. White, pure, and with a classic butterfly shape, they open successively on slender stems that arch gracefully. Though smaller than standard phalaenopsis, the flowers retain the same perfect symmetry and elegance. They can last weeks or even months in good conditions, and the plant can rebloom from the same stem or a new one.
Phalaenopsis Little Kolibri Amabilis has a compact habit with thick, fleshy leaves of 8–15 cm and flower stalks of 15–25 cm. As an epiphyte, it prefers pine bark substrate, bright indirect light, temperatures of 18–25°C, and weekly watering by submerging the pot in water. Avoid water accumulation in the leaf rosette and direct sunlight.
Phalaenopsis Amabilis flowers can last 2-3 months. After flowers drop, cut the spike above the second node for re-blooming.
Soak the pot in room temperature water for 15-20 minutes, then let it drain completely. Repeat once a week. Do not leave water in the saucer.
Phalaenopsis prefers bright indirect light. Avoid direct sun which burns the leaves. A spot near an east or north-facing window is ideal.
No, Phalaenopsis orchids are non-toxic and safe for homes with cats and dogs.
Use special orchid substrate based on pine bark, not standard soil. Roots need air and excellent drainage.
