Are there multiple stems/plants in the pot?
Plant comes from Indonesia as a rooted cutting with 2-3 notes without soil and without pot.
What should I do if the plant arrives damaged?
It is very rare for couriers to mishandle parcels, even though we label them as "FRAGILE".
In the unfortunate event that one or more plants, or the package, arrive damaged, please contact us and we will solve the situation together.
We assure you of our full cooperation.
Can I choose the exact plant I order?
You can contact us via WhatsApp or by phone to receive photos of the available specimens before shipping.
Does it have flowers?
Most of the Hoya plants we sell are not in bloom when shipped. However, they can bloom under the right light, temperature, and humidity conditions. The flowers are star-shaped (12 mm), golden-orange to yellow with white corona, and sweetly fragrant.
Check the "Flowering stage" for each product to see whether the plant is:
- Without flowers
- With formed peduncles
- With flowers
Hoya aff. vitellina sp. Cianjur flowers last approximately 5-7 days per cluster. This vigorous species blooms readily when mature and provided adequate light.
After the flowers fade, do not cut the peduncles, as they can produce new flowers in subsequent seasons from the same spurs for many years.
Blooming period
- Under ideal light and temperature conditions, Hoya aff. vitellina sp. Cianjur can bloom multiple times a year, typically in warm months (spring and summer, April–September).
- Mature plants with adequate bright light bloom reliably and abundantly.
Flower description
- The flowers are star-shaped, reflexed (petals curve backward), 12 mm diameter.
- Color is stunning golden-orange to yellow petals with contrasting white corona.
- They form in umbels containing up to 20 flowers.
- The flowers are sweetly fragrant.
- Each cluster lasts approximately 5-7 days.
Fragrance of the flowers
- The fragrance is sweet and pleasant.
- The scent is noticeable during the day.
- One of the fragrant Hoyas, adding sensory appeal to the spectacular foliage.
Why is Hoya aff. vitellina sp. Cianjur so special?
Hoya aff. vitellina sp. Cianjur is special and highly sought after for several reasons:
1. **Spectacular red-margined foliage** – dramatic dark purple-red margins create stunning contrast with green center and silver flecks
2. **Sun-stress coloration** – leaves change dramatically with light exposure, providing dynamic visual interest
3. **Vigorous fast growth** – one of the fastest-growing Hoyas, quickly becoming an impressive specimen
4. **Beautiful golden-orange flowers** – up to 20 flowers per cluster with sweet fragrance
5. **Rare locality form** – specific clone from Cianjur Regency, West Java
6. **Unpublished species** – related to but distinct from Hoya vitellina, awaiting formal description
7. **Easy to grow** – highly adaptable and forgiving, suitable for intermediate collectors
8. **Indonesian origin** – from the biodiverse tropical forests of West Java
What does "aff. vitellina" mean?
The botanical nomenclature explained:
- **"aff."** = affinis (Latin) = "related to" or "having affinity with"
- Indicates this plant is closely related to Hoya vitellina but is a distinct, as-yet unpublished species
- **Not the same as** Hoya vitellina – this is a different species awaiting formal botanical description
- The "sp. Cianjur" designation indicates this is a specific locality form from the Cianjur region
How to develop intense red leaf margins?
To maximize the spectacular red coloration on leaf margins:
1. Provide bright, stable indirect light – this is the most important factor
2. Keep near an east-, west-, or south-facing window with filtered bright light
3. Maintain slightly drier conditions (without underwatering) – slight water stress intensifies coloration
4. Avoid overwatering which can prevent red margin development
5. Ensure adequate temperature (18-30°C) – warmer temperatures help
6. Be patient – red margins develop gradually with consistent bright light exposure
7. Mature leaves show more intense coloration than young leaves
8. Some seasonal variation is normal – coloration may be more intense in summer
Why aren't my leaves showing red margins?
If your plant lacks the characteristic red margins, common causes include:
- **Insufficient light** – the most common reason; move to brighter location
- **Too much water** – overwatering prevents sun-stress coloration
- **Young plant** – immature plants need time to develop characteristic coloration
- **Insufficient acclimation time** – newly acquired plants need weeks to adjust to new light conditions
- **Solution**: Gradually increase light exposure, allow substrate to dry more between waterings, be patient
Is it fast-growing?
Yes! Hoya aff. vitellina sp. Cianjur is exceptionally vigorous:
- One of the fastest-growing Hoyas available
- Produces long vines quickly with proper care
- Can grow several feet per year under optimal conditions
- Rewards growers with rapid results, unlike slower rare Hoyas
- Perfect for quickly filling trellises or hanging baskets
- The vigorous growth makes it excellent for beginners to rare Hoyas
Where should I place it indoors?
Ideally near an east-, west-, or south-facing window with bright indirect light. This plant:
- Needs bright light to develop spectacular red margins
- Can tolerate some direct morning or late afternoon sun
- Perfect for climbing on trellis, moss pole, or bamboo stakes
- Excellent trailing from hanging baskets
- Benefits from stable bright light conditions year-round
- Avoid low light locations which prevent red margin development
Is it difficult to care for?
Hoya aff. vitellina sp. Cianjur is relatively easy to grow:
- Not difficult – suitable for intermediate growers
- Much easier than many rare Hoyas due to vigorous growth
- Forgiving of occasional care mistakes
- Tolerates average home humidity (50-60%)
- Main requirement is bright indirect light for best foliage coloration
- Prefers to dry out between waterings – avoid overwatering
- The fast growth and adaptability make it rewarding for collectors
What's the difference from other Hoya aff. vitellina forms?
Several locality forms of Hoya aff. vitellina exist:
- **sp. Cianjur** (this plant) – from Cianjur Regency, West Java
- **IML 1348** – from Java with similar characteristics
- **sp. Jabar** – from West Java (Jabar = West Java in Indonesian)
- All are closely related clones from different localities in Java
- Each locality form may have slight variations in leaf size, shape, or coloration intensity
- The Cianjur form is prized for its particularly striking red-margined foliage
Can I grow it in hanging basket or on trellis?
Absolutely! This versatile plant works beautifully either way:
- **Hanging basket**: Long vines trail elegantly, displaying red-margined leaves beautifully
- **Climbing support**: Vigorous vines quickly cover trellises, moss poles, or bamboo stakes
- The plant grows faster when allowed to climb
- Climbing encourages larger leaf development
- Can reach several feet in length within 1-2 years
- Choose based on your space and aesthetic preference – both are spectacular!
