Spathiphyllum Cupido is a striking variety of the beloved Peace Lily, with larger and more robust leaves than the standard variety, creating a dramatic botanical presence in any space. Its ample, gleaming dark green leaves unfurl with natural elegance, forming a dense, lush clump above which the characteristic white flowers rise gracefully.
The 'Cupido' variety was selected for its exceptional vigour, abundant flowering capacity and remarkable adaptability to low-light conditions. It is the perfect plant for spaces that require an impressive botanical presence with minimal care effort.
The genus Spathiphyllum originates from the humid tropical forests of Central America, South America and Southeast Asia, where over 40 species grow naturally on the forest floor in the protective shade of tall trees. This life beneath the forest canopy has given the plant exceptional tolerance to low light.
The name “Spathiphyllum” comes from Greek: “spathe” (sheath) and “phyllon” (leaf), describing the white bract that envelops the inflorescence — what we perceive as the “flower”. In reality, the true flowers are the tiny ones arranged on the yellow spadix at the centre of the white spathe.
Light: Thrives in moderate indirect light but tolerates partial shade exceptionally well. One of the few plants that blooms even with little light. Avoid direct sunlight.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist without waterlogging. The plant clearly signals when thirsty — the leaves droop slightly, recovering spectacularly after watering.
Temperature: 18-26°C. Sensitive to cold below 12°C and to draughts.
Humidity: Appreciates 50-70% humidity. Mist leaves regularly for a glossy appearance.
Soil: Well-draining substrate rich in natural matter. Equal parts peat, perlite and compost.
Fertilising: Monthly balanced liquid fertiliser during the warm season to stimulate flowering.
Spathiphyllum Cupido is a champion of air purification, included in the NASA Clean Air study. It effectively removes formaldehyde, benzene, trichloroethylene and ammonia from the air, contributing to a healthier indoor environment.
Its generous size (Ø19cm, height 80-90cm) makes it ideal as an accent plant in offices, lobbies, conference rooms and living rooms. The white flowers symbolise peace and harmony, making it a meaningful gift for any occasion.
