🌿 Hoya diversifolia ‘Maharani’ – Thick Silver Leaves with Regal Texture

Hoya diversifolia ‘Maharani’ is a gem in the world of houseplants, prized for its thick, fleshy leaves with a remarkable texture and a silver-green hue that gives it a regal appearance. The name “Maharani” (queen, in Hindi) is fully justified – this Hoya exudes refinement and distinction. It is a rare collectible plant sought by Hoya enthusiasts worldwide.

🌍 Origins & Botanical History

The genus Hoya comprises over 500 species in the Apocynaceae family, originating from tropical Asia and Oceania. Hoya diversifolia is native to Southeast Asia, growing as an epiphyte on trees in tropical forests. The ‘Maharani’ variety is distinguished by its exceptionally thick, textured leaves with an almost mineral appearance that makes it unique in Hoya collections.

🌿 Foliage – Textured Silver with Mineral Appearance

The leaves are what makes this Hoya exceptional. Thick and rigid, with a textured surface featuring visibly sunken veins, they have a delicate silver-green hue. The texture resembles a natural relief, like a miniature topographic map. The leaves are oval-round, 5–8 cm, and grow on thin but firm vines.

🌺 Flowers – Fragrant Waxy Clusters

Like all Hoyas, ‘Maharani’ can produce clusters of small waxy or porcelain-like flowers in optimal conditions, fragrant especially in the evening. The flowers are usually white or pale pink. Flower peduncles should not be removed after blooming, as the plant will rebloom from them.

🌱 Growth Habit & Development

Hoya ‘Maharani’ has a compact climbing habit with slow to moderate growth. It prefers bright indirect light, temperatures of 18–27°C, 50–70% humidity, and watering only when the substrate has dried almost completely. Very well-draining substrate – an epiphyte or succulent mix.
