Vulkaponic Substrate 3-8 mm (5 liters)

  • Features: This substrate is a natural mixture of pumice, lava and zeolite, with 3-8 mm granules, providing a porous and light structure. With excellent drainage capacity and moderate water retention, it is perfect for plants that require well-aerated soil. The 5 liter package is ideal for several small or medium pots or gardening projects.
  • Use: Use as a pure substrate or mixed (20-40%) with soil to improve drainage and prevent compaction. Recommended for aroids, cacti, succulents, orchids and hydroponic plants. Ensures a good air circulation and prevents water stagnation.
  • Benefits: It is sterile, durable and environmentally friendly, without natural substances that decompose. The zeolite in the composition helps retain and gradually release nutrients, supporting the growth and health of plants.

What plants is Vulkaponic 3-8 mm suitable for?

Vulkaponic 3-8 mm is suitable for most houseplants: Monstera, Philodendron, Ficus, Hoya, Alocasia, succulents, and orchids. It is used as a drainage layer, substrate amendment, or semi-hydroponic growing medium. The medium granulation provides the ideal balance between aeration and water retention.

How do I use Vulkaponic in pots?

There are 3 main ways: 1) As a drainage layer — place 2-4 cm at the pot bottom. 2) As an amendment — mix 20-30% Vulkaponic into existing substrate. 3) As semi-hydroponic medium — fill the pot entirely with Vulkaponic. Rinse and soak granules for 30-60 minutes before use.

What is the difference between Vulkaponic and LECA?

Vulkaponic has 30-40% greater water absorption capacity than standard LECA, is lighter, and has a rough surface that facilitates root adhesion. The neutral pH (6.5-7.0) requires no pretreatment. Vulkaponic offers a superior balance between drainage and moisture retention.

Is Vulkaponic reusable?

Yes, Vulkaponic is durable and reusable. Volcanic rock does not degrade over time, unlike organic substrate. For reuse, wash the granules, remove root debris, and sterilize by boiling or soaking in 3% hydrogen peroxide for 30 minutes.

How many pots can I cover with a 5-liter package?

A 5-liter package of Vulkaponic covers the drainage layer for 5-8 pots of 12-15 cm diameter. As an amendment (20-30% of the mix), it is sufficient for 3-4 medium transplantings. For semi-hydroponic culture, the amount depends on the pot volume used.
