🌍 Origin and natural habitat

Dracaena fragrans originates from the tropical forests of Africa, from Mozambique to Angola and Sudan, where it grows as a tall shrub or small tree in the forest understorey. In its native habitat, it can reach heights of up to 15 metres, with a woody trunk and a dense crown of leaves.

The 'Warneckei' variety was selected for its distinctive colour pattern and exceptional adaptability to indoor conditions. The name honours Heinrich Warnecke, a German horticulturist who helped popularise this plant in Europe.

Light: Prefers moderate indirect light but tolerates partial shade well. Brighter light intensifies the contrast of the white bands. Avoid direct sunlight.

Watering: Moderate — allow the top 2-3cm to dry between waterings. Dracaena prefers slightly dry over too wet. Sensitive to fluoride — use filtered or standing water.

Temperature: 18-25°C. Does not tolerate below 13°C. Avoid cold draughts.

Humidity: Adapts to normal household humidity but appreciates occasional misting.

Soil: Well-draining, slightly acidic substrate. Universal potting mix with perlite.

Fertilising: Monthly liquid fertiliser during the growing season (April to September).
